Exhibition: Polish Christmas Traditions.

Christmas in Poland is commonly referred to as Gwiazdka, or Little Star. The holiday season is filled with festivities. This exhibition is on from 1-17 December 2023 at the Polish Museum, 125 Elliot St, Howick, Tue-Fri 10-4 & Sun 12-5. Museum entry is by donation and groups by prior arrangement for a small fee. Workshop: Celebrate a Polish Christmas

Celebrate a Polish Christmas with paper and wool decorations.

Learn some Christmas Eve traditions, watching the first star and Wigilia supper.

Enjoy family fun creating your own paper and wool Christmas decorations to take home after the presentation.

For ages 5-adult. All children to be accompanied by an adult, thank you.

Cost is $10 per person and includes all materials provided (cash or internet banking is available, sorry no Eftpos).

Beginner’s Paper Cut-outs Workshop
Feb 1 @ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

Come create with paper and scissors. Great activity for the whole family. Relaxing and fun.

Polish decorative paper cut-outs belong to the most colourful in the world. Traditionally they were cut by hand, without drawing the lines first, using sheep shears.

  • Take home 2 art works
  • Watch a short presentation
  • Designs based on the Lowicz and Kurpie regions of Poland
  • This workshop is also available throughout the year, on other dates and days, and is ideal for birthday parties too!

$10.00 per person. Age 7-adult.

Polish Traditions of Easter exhibition.

Come along and find out about a traditional Polish Easter.

This exhibition is running alongside our Polish Easter craft workshop, which you are welcome to participate in on Sunday 24 March, as part of World of Cultures 2024 – see separate event listing for more details or book a time for your own group.

The exhibition will be available from 17-24 March (but please note the museum will be closed for Easter weekend).

Open hours are Tue-Fri 10am-4pm and Sun 12pm-5pm.

Casual entry is by donation.

Celebrating Polish Easter with crafts. Part of World of Cultures Auckland Festival 2024.

Design your own Polish Easter egg in this creative workshop for ages 7 to adult.

Create a colourful Easter Palm from paper. What is smigus-dyngus? It’s something fun!

Watch an educational presentation to find out about Polish Easter traditions.

Enjoy the Easter displays within the museum, then take home your own unique Easter craft work.

All children to be accompanied by an adult please.

Discover Polish archaeologists’ work in Poland and around the world, from the Iron Age Biskupin Fort, Katyn Forest and Warsaw to Egypt and South America. Come and unearth links between World War 2, Resistance and Polish New Zealanders.

Discover an Iron Age lake fort, Vikings and the hidden jewels of an emperor in Poland.

Poland has a long and rich history of fossils and artefacts buried in its rich multi-cultural heritage. Learn how some fascinating discoveries were made by ordinary people. See a re-created open air working museum in the slideshow presentation. Then construct your own craft work treasures to take home.
