The Consulate Office was opened in Auckland on 26
March 1999 by the Ambassador Dr Tadeusz Szumowski who was
accompanied by his wife Mrs Agata Szumowska. Among the
official guests attending the opening was the Minister of
Foreign Affairs Mr Don McKinnon.
The
following day a function was held at the Polish House
attended by some 200 guests from the Polish community
including our parish priest Father Stanislaw Wrona,
President of the Association of Poles in Auckland Jurek
Pisarek and the President of the Association of Poles in
Wellington Zofia Atkin.
In the programme we had song and dance and poetry recital
from the Polish School in Auckland, a presentation from
the Polish Literary Club and official speeches from the
Ambassador and the Honorary Consul.
